what to do after you pick your photographer…
so what’s next?
Once you’ve selected a photographer, they should let you know exactly what to expect next at each step.
Until then, here’s a quick reference guide that covers when to complete each major portrait-session “to-do” during your pregnancy, as well as some additional questions to help you get the most out of a design consultation with a photographer.
It’s always best to begin with the end in mind… what do you want to have at the end of your portrait experience? This guide will help clarify that.

kind words
AMAZING newborn pictures! She’s a baby whisperer, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. The pictures are something I treasure. If you’re on the fence and not sure if you should do it or not, DO IT. Beautiful pictures of your children are priceless. It’s worth EVERY PENNY to have them done. Colleen is amazingly talented!
Colleen Hight Photography is amazing! I have given her many challenges throughout the years (newborn sessions, photographing five boys ages four and under, etc) and she always rises to the challenge. Actually, she far exceeds any expectations. She does such a great job making kids feel comfortable and therefore capturing their true personalities. She never makes you feel rushed and is so great with little ones.
Colleen has three elements required for good professional photographs:
1) Actual training, knowing her camera and the practical requirements to harness the best from it inside and out.
2) High quality equipment that can bring daylight into a studio, capture detail with great depth of field, and provide a variety of crisp shots worthy of framing.
3) The third and hardest of all is the ability to make her clients comfortable. Whether that is having a clean changing table for a newborn, having strategies to make a toddler pay attention, or allowing multiple takes for a group shot that wasn’t quite captured with the first setup, she works with clients until the frozen smile goes away and the jitters are gone.
