What to Wear
How to create a stylish, comfortable, and versatile wardrobe for your session
The most common question I get from clients is what to wear for their photoshoot. Read on for the three most important tips that will have you designing the perfect photo session wardrobe with ease!
Do!
1. Create a color theme
Coordinating around a color theme to create the best images for family groups. Choose 1-3 saturated colors (think red, yellow, blue, green, orange, or purple) and mix and match so everyone is within the theme. Choosing colors on opposite sides of the color wheel creates beautiful parings, or you can also choose closer tones for a look with less contrast.
Once you know your color theme, choose 1-2 nuetrals to pair it with. This includes browns, creams, whites, greys, and denims. Try to have color AND nuetral peices for both tops and bottoms to mix the colors thoroughly.
Do!
2. Dress in layers
Weather permitting, layers look GREAT in photographs. They add depth, texture, and variety to your final gallery. They are an easy way to add more looks to your photos without a full outfit change. Scarves, hats, hackets, jewelry, layered shirts, and even a change of shoes from flats to heels or boots all provide more interest, and more options.
DO!
3. Wear something you feel comfortable wearing
Most people take much better photographs when they are comfortable in their clothes. No matter how cute your outfit, if you feel self conscious or physically uncomfortable, it will translate in your images! Pick something that makes you feel good, and that will come through as well.
